Lauren Chapman

Lauren Chapman is an emerging artist born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 1990. Chapman works predominantly in the medium of oil painting on canvas. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of South Carolina.  She spent a semester studying abroad in Italy in the summer of 2015, and received a fully funded art residency in the summer of 2016, at the International Center for the Arts in Monte Castello, Italy. She has received the The Scholastic Art & Writing Gold Key Award for Excellence in Visual Arts and the Yaghjian Studio Arts scholarship from the University of South Carolina. Chapman has been featured in the 2016 fall issue of The Jasper Project Magazine, the 2017 spring issue of Garnet and Black, the 2017 fall issue of Daily Gamecocks, the Free Times, and an article in the “Build” issue of New York Susie Magazine. Chapman has recently exhibited in ArtFields 2016 and 2018, both the Figure Out and the Marked by the Water exhibition at Tapp’s Arts Center in Columbia, South Carolina, the South Carolina State Library SCstrong exhibition, a solo exhibition at the Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji, Iowa titled: Repetitions, her BFA thesis show, You Can’t Hide Sound at Gallery 80808 in Columbia, South Carolina, Wild in Wonderland at the Tapp’s Arts Center, and Susie IRL at the HERE Arts Center, in New York, New York.
