Tigress and the Silver Sea
May 18 - July 1, 2018
My process begins with a person – I instinctively choose models for my work and photograph them, carefully constructing the pose, lighting, and props. I make detailed color studies from the photos, and combines these with imaginative environments, filling the canvas with bright patterns, magical realism imagery, and thick tactile surfaces. I create immersive environments for viewers to experience through sculpture and paintings where viewers can release the constraints of adulthood through mysterious, colorful, and playful characters meant to capture and create a platform for imagination. I am inspired by my personal experiences of being female and embracing the philosophy that in painting there are no rules, and anything goes.
Note: This exhibition finished hanging on July 1, 2018.
